On top of Mt. Tymphe, 2050m above sea level, one can find one of the most beautiful mountain lakes, Drakolimni. It is almost 2 acres, and a rare species of alpic salamanders can be found in its waters.

The ascend to Mt Tymphe’s Drakolimni, is mostly uphill, and is of medium difficulty. Mainly due to the vast altitude difference it can be fatiguing.

Our trek, begins from Little Papigo in Zagorochoria. It is 9-10 hours long, and we have the opportunity to do it in a single day, or spend the night in Astrakas refuge, which is located 1950m above sea level, making the hike a little bit easier.

High peak climbs, combined with the descend in deep, green, alpic valleys, are truly worth the effort. The enchanting view of Smolikas and Aoos river’s valley, will give you your money’s worth.
